Separate the dates that describe the car
Li Auto unveiled the L9 in 2022 and announced updates to the L-series in 2024. A new L9 announcement followed in May 2026. Use these as dated reference points, not proof that a seller’s vehicle belongs to a particular specification. The car’s records still need to establish its identity.
Production date, advertised model year and first registration can differ. Keep them as separate fields. A later registration should not silently become evidence of newer equipment. Request the original source-market description alongside an English translation so a shorthand label does not erase an important distinction.
Match configuration to the customer
Define the essential seating, charging, cabin and support requirements before comparing candidates. Those requirements should stay fixed when a seller proposes another year or version. Cosmetic preferences may be flexible, but a feature that determines acceptance needs its own evidence.
The Ultra and Livis guide addresses the new-model naming context. Do not impose newer names on earlier cars or use an old comparison to describe current equipment. Manufacturer material establishes a model reference; current photographs, documents and demonstrations identify the actual offer.
Assess status independently of model age
For new vehicles, state the production and registration status required and the pre-delivery checks expected. For used vehicles, ask for condition and history evidence. A version’s age does not answer either question, and a fresh-looking car does not establish its documentary status.
Read the condition guide when both new and used alternatives are acceptable. Broad year coverage is an invitation to discuss suitable options, not a promise that every past version remains available unused. Confirm availability when an actual offer is prepared.
Preserve the accepted configuration
Assign a reference to each candidate and retain changes. When a substitute appears, compare production information, equipment, condition and supplied items. Material differences should be agreed rather than absorbed into the common L9 name.
Use an individual row for each unit in a dealer batch. At handover, match the car with the accepted record and keep unresolved questions visible. The handover guide explains how documents, inspection evidence and accessories stay associated with the right vehicle.
A practical comparison
A buyer requests an updated L9, while a seller describes an earlier-produced car by its later registration year. Ask for the original model information and separate the two dates. Check the equipment that matters to the buyer before deciding whether the candidate is suitable. If the update itself is mandatory, retain it as an acceptance condition. If only a specific function is required, assess that function directly. A clear record makes the decision explainable without relying on a loosely translated label.
