Specify what new must mean
Ask whether the buyer requires unregistered status, a production period or another documented condition. Request the evidence that establishes it. If classification affects destination acceptance, have the actual records reviewed by an appropriate destination-side adviser.
Do not infer status from a showroom photograph or a low distance reading. The year guide also distinguishes production information from first registration. An earlier specification can be registered later without becoming the latest update.
Agree pre-delivery checks
A new candidate still needs a check of present condition, controls, warnings, keys and supplied items. Storage and transport can affect a car before customer use. Identify how findings will be resolved and what confirms completion.
Keep charging and connected-function requirements in the brief. Being unused does not prove compatibility with the buyer’s charger or access to every overseas service. Those questions require their own evidence, separate from documentary status and cosmetic condition.
Build the used candidate’s record
Request declared mileage, available registration and maintenance history, disclosures and an individual inspection. Distinguish prior repairs from outstanding concerns. Missing evidence should remain visible rather than being interpreted as proof that nothing happened.
The battery review and chassis review address different technical concerns. Keep each report connected to the actual car. One inspected example should not certify every vehicle in a mixed dealer order.
Compare preparation and support
Write inspection, preparation, accessories and delivery scope beside the vehicle amount. A lower quote may exclude work or items supplied in another offer. Compare the same scope before deciding whether the price difference represents value.
Ask for applicable written support or warranty terms if they form part of the offer. Attribute commitments to the responsible party. Do not assume domestic benefits transfer automatically between owners or markets, and do not describe all historical configurations as available new.
A practical decision
A customer is open to a new or used L9 but requires a particular cabin function and clear history. Set separate status criteria for the new route and history criteria for the used route, while retaining the same equipment requirement. This produces useful alternatives. If the seller changes the candidate, review the new evidence instead of carrying over the earlier approval. A condition preference should create a structured comparison, not remove the checks needed to understand the offered car.
Manufacturer context: 2022 L9 introduction, 2024 L-series update, and May 2026 L9 announcement (PDF). The actual offer requires its own specification and condition evidence.
